| A Brief History | The twins were born at Plano Medical Center during an evening thunderstorm after 35 weeks in the womb. Dr. Jules Monier delivered the babies in the OR and was pleasantly surprised that no C-section was required (Spencer followed sister Rylie by just 11 minutes). Mom had been on bed rest since week 30, and by Tuesday 28 May, she was at 5cm and 100% effaced. By week 35, Chris's blood pressure reached an unsafe level, and Dr. Monier made the call to induce. Chris began labor around 6.30p, had an epidural around 8.00p, started pushing around 9.45p, and was taken to the OR at 10.00p for delivery. The babies were both out 30 minutes later. Rylie (Apgar 7) needed a small percentage of additional oxygen for the first 6 hours of life, and was taked to NICU for observation. Spencer (Apgar 10), was able to spend a little time with Mom before following his sister to NICU (the staff did not want to separate the twins). Spencer & Rylie were moved out of NICU to Baby Steps Nursery on 1 Jun. Mom returned home on 31 May, and was already feeling fine. Rylie quickly learned to take a bottle, and made it home on Tuesday 4 Jun. Spencer, on the other hand, was "all energy, no direction", and needed an additional week of bottle training before heading home. Both twins are now sleeping together at home, eating well, and gaining weight. |
